Last week we were excited to welcome Carol Ladouceur and Josée Laurendeau from the Roger Roy Foundation to our studio to meet our staff and have a tour of our space! The Roger Roy Foundation has contributed funds to the Creative Media Lab program at Spectrum since 2017 and we are so grateful for their support.

This has been an amazing year for the participants of all our programs, from Creative Media Lab to Social Club and everything in between! In addition to reopening the studio to in-person attendance this spring, we added a new program, Behind the Camera Club, in partnership with Cinema Public for girls, transfem, transmasc and questioning autistic youth. This program will continue in the fall!

This May, Workman Arts presents its 21st Annual Being Scene Exhibition, and Kat Singer’s work is being featured in the curated group show called Diapause!

Autism Awareness Month Sketch!
The crew at Production Club have done it again! They’ve made a hilarious video on their return to the studio and the obstacles in their way! We hope you enjoy this little sketch they made!

CREATORS SPOTLIGHT Angela Criscuolo
I love working out and I completed a program in personal training. I also studied in graphic design, and I have combined these two skills to start producing YouTube videos. Since I joined Spectrum, I created and edited 3 workout videos, two of them are already up on YouTube.

CREATORS SPOTLIGHT Sam Clark
Sam Clark is 20 years old and has lived in Montreal his whole life. In 2014 he joined Spectrum Productions and made his first film Lawbreakers. Also with his twin brother Leo they made Zombies in Life, an improvised film about a zombie outbreak in the studio when there was a power outage in the building. In 2015 he was inspired by the film Galactic Justice: Rise of the Doominoids to make his own superhero film, and Elec-teen was born!

CREATORS SPOTLIGHT Alex Ponte
Alex Ponte is 27 years old and has been coming to Spectrum ever since 2018. He started at Production Club, editing short videos from his favourite titles like Tintin, Marvel and Murder on the Orient Express.

MOVIE NIGHT: Nature VS Robots!

We are premiering an adorable and captivating animated film this Friday! This funny short was animated and voiced by the talented participants Amelie, Alejandro, Brandon and Maria, and was led by the skilled producers Jake, Noah and Anthony! The characters will make you chuckle and animation will leave you awestruck!
Autistic Creator from Sri Lanka is featuring at Spectrum Fest!
Dominic Brendon Perera is an 18 year old from the Island of Sri Lanka. He was diagnosed with autism when he was three years old and he focuses on movie making, video editing, creating music, special effects and authoring even more.

Blake Priddle Raises Support for Spectrum!
We have a new contributor to our community! For his Birthday, Blake Priddle hosted a fundraiser on Facebook, resulting in a $252 for Spectrum! He is an autistic media creator himself, as he is a radio host and a new author of his own memoir! He’s been able to interview so many iconic Canadians and has been on the airwaves all across the country. He gave a bit of his time to answer my questions below.

An exciting interview with one of our Community Challenge guests - Akash Jones!
Akash Jones is a renowned brick-filmer and stop motion expert! He has created a lot of viral hits over the years and is well known in the Toronto filmmaking community as well. On his two channels he has amassed over 200,000 subscribers and 128 million views! He is best known for his Star Wars and Marvel Lego fan films, and has also started working on his own live action films.

Community Challenge #8: Meet Two Talented Creators!
For our next Community Challenge we are joined by two talented artists from Spectrum! They have been a part of the community for a combined 14 years and have filled the studio with so much colourful work! Ben specialises in fantastical animal characters, and Lucas in hilarious animated shorts!

She has been leading Hands on Media since 2015. Before that in 2013, she was one of Spectrum Productions founding board members and was instrumental in developing Spectrum's social media strategy during her term. I got a moment to ask her about her work and where her passion for media education comes from.
